First Tech

Today was first tech. The set is also coming along really nicely. I am really happy with it. I love that the color pattern in teal and yellow, which will clash with the light pink dresses. I am so impressed that we were able to pull all of the furniture and supplies from stock and it still have it look like everything belonged together. All of the wood work from the nightstand, vanity, bench, and small table look like they match, and the couch and armchair are definitely a set, so the fact that I was able to find a straight back chair in other storage with dark wood and yellow upholstery was amazing. I also had an oops moment today when I thought that today was going to be first dress, so I told the girl who had done the interview for the show with Amanda and me that she could come to rehearsal tonight to take pictures. Well, since they would not be wearing the dresses, it would really be pointless for her to take pictures. She decided that for timing reasons she would run the article without pictures for us so we could get it out there. According to the Box Office, our ticket presales are actually doing pretty well. I am really excited about that. They did have to turn away a sale of thirty tickets though because it was apparently a middle school teacher that wanted to bring her class. Since this is an adult content show, they informed her and she decided it would probably be best if they did not come since the she did not want to get in trouble with parents. That was probably a good idea since this show includes, drugs (Marijuana and Cocaine), alcohol and getting drunk, flashing people, talking about sex, and an abundance of curse words. The girls always have fun with it, and it will be a fantastic show, but not really for kids. It is starting to come down to the final rehearsals, and while yes the set is still not complete, I do believe that Patrice and company will be able to finish it in time. At today’s rehearsal, the girls were visibly different. The bonding session that we had at my apartment on Friday worked wonders. They were listening to each other, reacting, having fun, and building on these relationships with the other characters. I am so happy that they are so willing to learn and work on things. I have worked with actors in the past who can’t really take direction and who do not grown or change or improve throughout the entire course of a production. My cast is the complete opposite. They have turned these characters into real people and have changed immensely since the start of the rehearsal process. They are so eager to learn and grow and help each other out. This cast is so tightly knit and put together. I hope that through this, these kids can form friendships that will last them the rest of their time here at college, and into the rest of their lives.
