Us Girls Have to Stick Together

Tonight was cue to cue. It actually did not last nearly as long as I thought it would. Granted we only have about twenty cues. I was really proud of my cast and their professionality. They listened and paid attention and did what we needed them to do. Ryan and his crew were able to get things hashed out to where they needed them, and figure out the things that would need to be fixed. We are still a little behind in our build schedule since we found out Wednesday that we were only allowed to be in the space until midnight every night. I understand the fact that it has to do with liability and safety, but it did throw a wrench in some of our plans. There has been a discussion of coming in Sunday afternoon to work on things. We do still have until Thursday technically, but I would rather not stress myself out that much by not having things completed until the last minute. It just brings back flash backs of when I directed The Nightmare Before Christmas and we did not have a full tech run with correct light cues, and a full set with set changes until the opening night of the show. I am enjoying working with this design team and how professional they have all been, since past shows I have worked on have not been that professional. The fact that our cue to cue lasted only about a little over an hour, was amazing. I did impart the story of Legally Blonde onto my cast members. That show was stressful, since the cue to cue lasted almost three days. I spent every one of those three days in the costume shop trying to finish the costumes that Alyssa had been slacking on, getting those songs rammed into my head for hours. This show is a blessing. After cue to cue, I brought the girls over to my apartment for some bonding time. Tyler said that he would not be able to come over since he wanted to work on homework. We joked that Ryan was the new Tripp and continued without him. The night went great. We talked and joked around and then we started going through the script. It was amazing. They were all having so much fun that they were once again making new discoveries within themselves. They were also becoming so much closer as a cast. You could feel it in the room. Francesca even opened up to us about a problem that she had discovered that day and was having trouble processing. She decided to introduce her dilemma during the Tommy Valentine monologue. So, instead of continuing with the rest of the script (since we did not have a Tripp anyway), we decided to help Francesca process, and deal with the situation at hand in a healthy and mature way. We talked her through it and helped her create a game plan that would benefit all the parties involved, and that would help the situation not repeat itself. We gave her advice and helped her in a way that brought all of us closer together. It was a great feeling to feel and talk about serious subjects and to connect with a group of women like this. It is exactly what this play is all about to me. Female friendships are very important and should never be compromised, because we need to stick together.
